April

What is Lesbian Visibility Week

Lesbian Visibility Week celebrates lesbians, as well showing solidary to all LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people. This day calls for people to support and uplift every woman, especially underrepresented groups. Lesbian Visibility Day has been running since 2008, however, in 2020 this was transformed into a full week to create a bigger platform and a greater call for awareness.

Lesbian Visibility Week and Employment

Employers have a key role in reducing discrimination in the workplace, and ensuring their employees are not being bullied, victimised, or discriminated against. Creating an inclusive culture, educating employees, and raising awareness of Lesbians and LGBTQ+ women, contribute to this as well as making people feel safe and create belonging. Employers can also:

  • Share information and resources relevant to the day
  • Check that policies and procedures are inclusive of Lesbian employees
  • Provide LGBTQ+ education, e-Learning, or training to all employees
  • Creating a safe space, such as an employee network or ERG
