New Year’s Day
Sunday

January
New Year’s Day is celebrated in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland on the 1st of January every year. It follows New Year’s Eve (31st Dec) and celebrations from the night before, including parties and fireworks displays, often run into the early hours of the morning. Common celebrations on New Year’s Day include family dinners, gatherings and making resolutions for the year ahead.
New Year’s Day is also a Bank Holiday in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. If the 1st falls over a weekend, a substitute Bank Holiday is normally given on the following Monday. In 2023 the Bank Holiday for New Year’s Day falls on Monday 2nd January.
